"I'm very much appreciative and thankful to be the head coach of the Detroit Lions", Patricia said. "I thrived on it".

"He was kind enough to give me my first start in the Division I level", Patricia said of Pasqualoni. Three years later, he joined New England. He held that title for all of eight games-once the season ended, he made the trek back to his home state to coach the University of CT.

Thus soon after the dust had settled, Patricia had agreed to become the next coach of the Lions. But if he doesn't win a lot of games, his personality won't really matter.

Justin Rogers of the Detroit News reported in early January that Patricia was at the top of the Lions' wish list.

"I'm not talking about that tonight", said McDaniels, who has served a total of nine seasons as Patriots offensive coordinator under Bill Belichick.

Since winning the 1957 National Football League title, Detroit's only postseason victory was more than a quarter-century ago.

David Corrao was hired as the Lions' director of football research after being the senior player personnel analyst at Ole Miss.

Last season, he received a lot of interest as franchises searched for new head coaches, but he ultimately stayed in Detroit with Jim Caldwell. He's in New England. Ten years later, he got his first head coaching gig at Western Connecticut State. Patricia wasted little time to put his staff together which included signing Paul Pasqualoni to be the man to run his defense. For the past two seasons, Pasqualoni was the defensive line coach at Boston College. One of the things that made Patricia such a coveted head-coaching candidate was the reputation he built as being a coordinator who schemed a defense week to week based on the opponent. The Cheshire, Conn. native holds a bachelor's degree in health and physical education from Penn State, as well as a Master of Science in Physical Education and Human Performance from Southern Connecticut State. "Obviously, he's done a great job here in what he's been able to accomplish with both him and (Matthew) Stafford and the offense". "No one forced him to consider anybody but we wanted to hear their views on our coaching staff, hear their views on our players and ultimately he made the decision that he made in terms of the coaching staff that he wanted to build that includes Jim Bob and a few of the other guys on the offensive side".
