On Saturday afternoon, news came out that Miller would not coach the Wildcats in their game against OR later that night.
A Yahoo Sports report Friday morning exposed spreadsheets that detailed alleged payments to numerous players from the ASM agency for various purposes including flights and loans.
Schlabach reported on Friday that Arizona head coach Sean Miller was heard on Federal Bureau of Investigation wiretaps discussing a $100,000 payout to ensure Ayton would play basketball for the Wildcats.
Trier, who averages 19.6 points a game, was suspended by the NCAA on Thursday after testing positive for a banned substance.
In a statement, Miller said, "I believe it is in the best interest of our team that I not coach the game tonight".
Local fans say they are interested to find out if there will be any immediate systematic changes to college basketball, but despite the situation, will continue to support the University of Arizona basketball program.
The school did not specify why Miller didn't coach against OR or if he will sit out any other games.
With all of the storylines surrounding Saturday night's game, the stat sheet shows two distinct reasons for Arizona's overtime loss: turnovers and offensive rebounds.
"He's a high-character guy, really cares about his teammates, and he gives his all, he gives his all regardless", senior guard Parker Jackson-Cartwright said. "His shooting will continue to improve, and I think at that point, when all of that comes together, then you're going to have an elite National Basketball Association player". "I don't think we're in the game without him".
OR (19-10, 9-7) used a stellar performance at the foul line and a balanced offense to pick up its second straight win. He appeared to play with more intensity than at any other point this season. But Oregon crept back and Troy Brown hit a 3 to pull them within 55-53 with 13:56 left and the Ducks later went on a 13-0 run to go ahead 68-64 on a 3-pointer from Pritchard with 7:24 left. The lead remained five at 90-85 when Rawle Alkins broke free for a dunk and was fouled by Wooten, but Alkins drew a technical for jawing at Wooten after the basket, denying the Wildcats a chance to grab momentum. OR was down 5, 43-37 at the break. Auburn's Chuck Person was another assistant coach who had been arrested.
"You're really asking me?" he said. The work at the line helped them overcome a 58.6 shooting percentage and 35-30 rebounding edge for the Wildcats.
OR called a timeout before running a final play but Payton Pritchard missed a contested layup in the final seconds and UA's Alkins grabbed the rebound before time expired, sending the game into overtime.
CBS Sports' request for comment from Arizona was not immediately returned.
In the second half, Dana Altman's Ducks made some good adjustments, and the OR zone was able to limit Ayton's touches in the post.
Richardson, who has worked alongside Miller for the last 10 seasons at both Xavier and Arizona, was among the four assistant coaches arrested on September 27 following a two-year FBI investigation into bribery and corruption in NCAA basketball.
