"Our thoughts are with the family of El Paso County Sheriff's Deputy Micah Flick and the three wounded officers", Democrat Michael Bennet said.

At a news conference in Colorado Springs, the El Paso County Sheriff identified the fallen officer as 34-year-old Micah Flick.

"Deputy Flick was an outstanding member of my agency and he will be missed", Sheriff Bill Elder said.

Police remained in the area hours after the shooting, while other officers and bystanders lined the streets to watch as a procession drove Flick's body from a local hospital to the county coroner's office. As a result, a civilian was injured by gunfire and transported to Memorial Hospital.

Two suspects were shot in the incident and multiple other suspects are in custody otherwise, Denver7 has learned.

Officer Zack Parrish, with the Douglas County Sheriff's Office, was responding to a domestic disturbance and died in the "ambush-style" attack on New Year's Eve.

Colorado Springs Police Chief Peter Carey said the incident started around 6 p.m. ET in what began as a report of a stolen vehicle, according to USA Today.

The names of the other victims and suspect were not released.

The slain deputy was investigating a vehicle theft. The suspect died on scene. Two other El Paso County deputies were wounded.

Deputy Flick leaves behind a wife and 7-year-old twins.

The organization does not solicit for funds but Flick's service, which has not yet been scheduled, will be the third funeral held for a law enforcement officer this month.

"This is indeed a hard day for our agencies", said Carey at a press conference at Memorial Hospital.

Colorado Gov. John Hickenlooper said the deadly violence against officers is having a grave impact on the state. The suspects are all reportedly accounted for.

Both the Colorado Springs Police Department and the El Paso County Sheriff's Office will be responding to "emergent and in progress" calls.

"We will once more come together to provide sympathy and strength for the deputy's loved ones and pray for the recovery of those injured", the governor said in a statement.
