Yoga practitioners took a relaxing break to bend, twist and pose on Wednesday for the annual worldwide event celebrating the practice, especially in the country where it began.
The cooperative issued a brief statement on the occasion offering its view of the great Indian contribution to the world.
Congratulating Prime Minister Mr Narendra Modi the release said "On 11 December, 2014, the United Nations General Assembly declared June 21st as the International Day of Yoga". Earlier, Modi, in a lighter vein, said yoga enthusiasts here were not only spreading a message that yoga is important in life, but they were also demonstrating as to how yoga mats could be used to protect them from rain. Practising chair yoga increases blood circulation, improves feet, toes, hand and finger movements, balance, stimulates elimination of body toxins and betters posture.
Many countries which do not know our language, tradition or culture are now connecting to India through yoga.
Participating in the International Day of Yoga at Exposition Hall, NER Agri Expo Site, Dimapur, Rudy expressed pleasure at the turnout of people even as the programme was organized within a short span of time. 50 or 60 minutes (is fine) because it lends harmony to the body, mind and intellect. In the western city of Ahmedabad, 125,000 people led by celebrity yoga guru Baba Ramdev gathered at an open-air ground to try to set a new Guinness World Record for the largest session.
Yoga poses such as the Downward Facing Dog, where your balance your body on all fours, or the Warrior Pose, where a participant balances on one leg, can really build muscular strength and aid balance.
In New Delhi Union ministers M Venkaiah Naidu and Vijay Goel, Delhi Lt Governor Anil Baijal and Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal also took part in the celebrations. He added that there was a demand for yoga instructors, especially from India, around the world. "We may not master yoga or become teachers but we should not stop from performing yoga (asanas)", Modi said.
