Sanders Says Fraud Investigation into Wife Won't Be 'Distraction'

26 June 2017

Former presidential candidate Bernie Sanders and his wife Jane could be in some real hot water.

Bernie Sanders talks with Anderson Cooper on CNN on Thursday night.

Holm has said that when the Federal Bureau of Investigation subpoenaed the school a year ago, an agent asked her for records relating to a list of donors in a spreadsheet the agent provided her, as well as communications from when Sanders was president.

Sanders' adviser Jeff Weaver told CBS that it's flat-out false that Bernie lobbied for the loan and stated that "the loan was approved by the financial board at the college". Along with local Burlington Attorney Rich Cassidy, who will represent Bernie, a high-profile Washington defense attorney will handle Jane Sanders' case, Larry Robbins. "It was started under President Obama, his Attorney General, and his U.S. Attorney, all of whom are Democrats". (According to POLITICO, VTDigger first confirmed the FBI's investigation into the claims in April.) Sanders was pushed out of Burlington College soon after the purchase, and the school was forced to shut its doors in the spring of 2016 due to its huge amount of debt, according to VTDigger.

VTDigger, a local Vermont online publication, confirmed the Federal Bureau of Investigation probe in April.

Sanders who ran as a Democrat during the election previous year has been an independent who caucuses with Democrats during his senatorial career. The college cited this costly land acquisition on Jane Sanders' part in a press release when the college closed its doors and shut down back in 2016.

Sen. Sanders has indicated that he believes the investigation is based in politics. Toensing was also a Vermont chairman for the Trump campaign. But that hacking is at the core of the investigation into Russia's possible meddling in the campaign so whether he meant to or not, Trump's tweet once again brings the issue of Moscow's effort to hurt Clinton's candidacy to the forefront.

"I don't care what your political view is", Sanders said. "It would be improp - this implication came from Donald Trump's campaign manager in Vermont".

The tweet is an apparent reference to a cache of almost 20,000 hacked Democratic National Committee emails released by WikiLeaks almost one year ago that Sanders' supporters' said bolstered their claims that the party favored Clinton.

Politico broke the news of the Sanders' lawyering up with a number of high-powered attorneys amidst reports that investigators may be looking into allegations that Senator Sanders inappropriately urged the bank to give his wife's school the loan. Sanders' office pressured the bank to grant Ms. Sanders the loan.
